A young couple and their adventures of hiking the Appalachian Trail
Today was our first official resupply at Neels Gap. We were so incredibly excited for this day! We hiked 7 miles and got here in the afternoon in enough time to get one of the cabins here to share with some of the other hikers. Showering never felt so amazing! I feel like a brand new person! It’s pretty cold out here most of the time so we dont sweat much but the hiker stink was starting to be bad enough. We ordered some pizza and Lance and I both ate one together! We are definitely starting to feel the hiker hunger hit us! It’s gonna be so amazing to stay at a cabin here with a cozy bed! We are starting to get a little more used to sleeping in the tent but its so cold that its hard to stay warm at night even after putting all our layers on. We bought some cozy flannel sleeping bag liners so we should stay warmer for the next few weeks of cold weather…especially when we hit the Smokey Mountains.
The weather here so far has been fairly nice to hike in other than just being really cold. We had a few days where it drizzled a little and was a bit rainy but nothing that drenched us or got anything wet. So far we haven’t had any injuries or blisters either. I can feel the last day or so that we are starting to hike with less breaks and are getting our hiker legs.
Here’s a few pictures of the last few days….

We ran out of food Monday so we went to town to get food till our resupply. We got a pizza and wings too! Sooo yummy!

We counted rings on one of these fallen trees and we counted 250!

One of the rainy-ish days we had!

Happy to reach the top of another mountain!!
pretty envious while reading about this trip! thanks for sharing though. Quick tip: on colder nights, keep your feet in one large sock as opposed to keeping them in separate socks. Not one literal sock, and extra hat or something works well. My feet often get cold on brisker camping nights and putting them both into the stuff sack for my sleeping bag helped a lot. Hike on!
Awesome idea! I’ll have to remember that since my feet usually tend to be cold a lot. Thanks for the idea👍
